How can i improve my computers virtual memory?

Recently my computer has at times been getting slow to the point of losing the connection. Then a message appears that an effort is being made to expand the virtual memory. The computer however remains slow. (I have checked for viruses, adware and run an error check)

Would help if we knew what OS you are running and how much RAM you have in your PC.

Try cleaning your PC by deleting your temp files and your temporary internet files. Also empty your recycle bin.

You can do all the above in XP in one go from

Start/programs/accessories/system tools/disk cleanup

Next... go to Control Panel

Performance and maintenance/See basic information about your computer/System properties

click "settings" under "performance"

"Memory usage" tick "System cache" instead of "programs"

"Virtual Memory" change your page file to 500MB

Now click OK and reboot your computer.

Once you did so, defragment your hard drive.

Good luck.

right click on my computer, go to properties, then to advanced tab there select settigs of performance and go to advanced tab in that at the last you see virtual memory settings
Virtual memory is the swap space alloted on the hard disk. It has a minimum and a maximum value. Usually minimum is equal to the physical RAM on your pc. and the maximum is two and half times the RAM.
